When to start classes / How old should my puppy be?
Assuming that your pup has a clean bill of health and has started their vaccination series you can join our classes anytime from 8 weeks and up. From our point of view:
- Your pup is learning things all the time anyway and we provide you with current best practice methods for potty training, mouthing, crate training, obedience skills.
- Class and playtime are great ways to start socializing your pup and the first 16 weeks of the pups life are a very critical socialization window (a well socialized dog is more confident and less likely to have behavior issues down the road see Association of Professional Dog Trainers statement)
My dog is not a puppy / Is my dog too old to take classes?
No! Your dog is never too old to learn appropriate behaviors and new tricks! Our group classes are conducted on-leash so they are suitable for dogs of all ages.
What vaccinations are required / What records to bring to class?
Our prerequisite is that your pup has gotten a clean bill of health from a veterinarian and has started age appropriate core vaccinations. Our recommendation is that you have your own local veterinarian perform a wellness check ASAP after you get your pup and that you coordinate vaccination requirements with your vet (different vets can have slightly different protocols on when to give the core vaccinations – and your vet will have recommendations on which non-core vaccines make sense for your puppy). So e.g. we don’t require bordetella but your vet may recommend it.
Please bring either a vaccination book or veterinarian receipt showing proof of vaccinations to your first class.
